Looking for the ultimate Classic American Cheeseburger with an Anadi twist to it? I hope you try it for an awesome grilling party tonight! This burger is meaty, cheesy, and just melt-in-your mouth delicious! With this Classic American Cheeseburger recipe, you’ll learn how to make the juiciest beef patty right from home! This patty certainly delivers in flavour and it’s huge! Of course, let’s not forget the awesomeness of cheddar cheese! At the time of writing, it’s almost the Fourth of July, so this would be the perfect burger to serve for the occasion!
I think burgers are an integral component of an American (or Canadian!) diet. Well, to be fair, even in India McDonald’s, among others, burgers are widely adored! We just don’t have the same kinds of burgers served due to a large percentage of the population being vegetarian, and beef isn’t served at McDonald’s India.
I had my first ever cheeseburger from McDonald’s in Canada. Obviously, I never tasted beef in India, but after some time in Canada, I was eager to finally give it a try. I simply ordered the basic cheeseburger. I was pretty impressed by McDonald’s basic cheeseburger, but of course then I wanted to make my own and really kick up the flavours!
Burgers of all kinds are fantastic, but I have to say that a beef patty really acts as a fabulous blank canvas. I’ve had so much fun experimenting with different topping combinations and cooking techniques for the patty. Even the thickness of the patty makes such a difference! I love a decently thick patty to really taste the meatiness. As you can see from the photo, I like my burgers nice and tall! A juicy American Cheeseburger is just so finger-licking good! One of the best presents I’ve ever received was the American Test Kitchen’s The Ultimate Burger - the variety of recipes is just outstanding, and I’ve had tons of fun exploring different add-ins for turkey, chicken and beef patties! I’m nowhere near done getting through it, let me tell you that!
But this recipe will simply be my take on a classic. We’re not going to go too crazy with anything here, just really let the beef and the cheese shine in between some homemade burger buns! This recipe will give you the most juicy and flavourful burger and I can't wait to get your opinion on this recipe! So get all of your ingredients out and get ready to the ultimate indulgence! Let’s get to it!

How to Make Classic American Cheeseburger
Making the Patties
Combine all ingredients for the beef patties (until dijon mustard) into a bowl and mix well to make the patty mix.
Lightly oil your hands and take half of the mix and form it into a ball while compressing it, and then flatten it out into a thick disc and neatly tug the edges to form the patties. Repeat with the other half.
Grilling the Patties
Heat a grill pan/frying pan on medium heat for the burgers.
Lightly oil the pan and place the patty on the pan. With the back of a spoon/your finger, make a deep indent in the centre of the patty. This is going to help prevent the patty from puffing up into a ball. Cook for about 4-5 minutes.
In the meanwhile, heat another pan on medium heat to toast the burger buns. Add a bit of olive oil or butter on the other pan and toast the buns until golden brown. Alternatively, you may toast the buns under an oven broiler or a toaster in bagel mode.
Flip the patty and continue cook on the other side for 4-5 minutes or until cooked thoroughly. Note: If you want a cheese burger, add a slice of cheese once you flip the burger.
Assembling the Burger
To assemble the burger, add sauce of your choice on either side of the buns. Break and bend the lettuce to fit the bun, and lay it on with some slices of tomato and onion. Rest the burger on top, dress on some pickles, and put the top bun on. Secure the burger with some bamboo skewers if desired and serve hot with some baked fries and enjoy!
Can I Make the Patties Ahead of Time?
Ground beef is best if frozen for up to 4 months, any longer and it tends to suffer in quality. The mince for this meat can be frozen separately or the patties themselves, once wrapped in parchment paper and plastic wrap in a freezer safe Ziploc bag. However, keep in mind that the bright pink colour of the mince will most probably oxidize and turn brown once refrigerated or frozen for an extended period of time.
To defrost the patties, simple take the meat out of the freezer the night before and let them defrost naturally.
