S’more Please!!
I’ve gone camping a few times but I’m not entirely sure if I’ve roasted marshmallows on those camping trips. Maybe I have once? I’m not entirely sure! But when I got my first apartment, as a housewarming gift I had received a fondue kit from my girlfriend’s mom. Well, you know I’m a huge chocoholic… So what did I do? I ran out and got some marshmallows, graham crackers, melted chocolate chips, and went crazy! Even if I did roast marshmallows while camping, this was my first vivid experience of making s’mores and I was truly head over heels about the concept and the taste! I also loved how easy it was to prepare this ooey, gooey, chocolaty treat with the help of the fondue kit. I used this Cuisinart Fondue Kit.
Why go out in the wild to roast marshmallows when you can do it from the comfort of your own home? After a luscious meal, making some s’mores in your PJs sure is a luxury I’ll cherish.

In fact, I’ve got quite a few stove-top oatmeal recipes you can refer to if you’re looking for a quick and comforting breakfast, such as:

Milk
Vanilla extract: Or Madagascar bourbon vanilla bean paste for a more intense flavour.
Graham crackers: These are gluten-free!
Maple syrup or honey
I love to use dairy milk, as I have no dietary restrictions. I do find that dairy milk makes oats creamier, but feel free to use whichever milk suits your preferences. I’ll be using full fat milk here for the thickest and creamiest oatmeal.
Large flake rolled oats give a nice texture to the oats and cook well on the stove. You could also use quick cooking oats if you want fluffier oatmeal, as I found that’s the difference between rolled oats and quick cooking oats. In this picture, I actually did use quick cooking oats!
Chia seeds always add additional texture and creaminess to oats, so hot or cold, they’ve become a staple for me when I prepare oats of all kinds!
Madagascar bourbon vanilla bean paste has been such a game-changer! I save it for special occasions, and I sure consider this oatmeal bowl a special occasion! In the past, I’ve made the recipe with Madagascar bourbon vanilla bean paste, and if you have it I definitely recommend it here. However, when I filmed this recipe, I only had vanilla extract. If you’re in that situation too, all you need to do is simply double the amount of vanilla extract. This is quite concentrated, so you don’t need much of it, but to get similar results you’ll need to increase the quantity of vanilla extract used.
Graham crackers to sandwich your molten marshmallows and chocolate. Use gluten-free graham crackers to make your recipe gluten-free.
Mini marshmallows to be used to make a s’more! You can’t have s’mores without marshmallows! In the past, I’ve also made the recipe with large marshmallows since that’s what I had on hand.
Your favourite chocolate bar to put on top of the marshmallow, sandwiched by the graham cracker. In this recipe, I used Neilson’s Jersey Milk. I believe milk chocolate is traditionally used in s’mores, but of course use your favourite chocolate bar! This is a great milk chocolate bar I discovered in Canada.
Chocolate chips will be added on top. Over the hot oats, these will just melt and taste heavenly. I recommend semi-sweet chocolate chips.
Maple syrup or honey some extra sweetness over the cooked oats for some extra sweetness.

How to Make Chocolate Chip S’mores Oatmeal
These oats may seem fairly complicated to make, but trust me, they’re not! You could make them any morning you’d like! These chocolate chip s’mores oats are easier than you think, and you’ll want to have them again and again!
Add your oats and milk to a pot.
Put the pot on medium heat, and let your oats come up to a boil.
Then, add your vanilla extract (or Madagascar bourbon vanilla bean paste) and chia seeds.
Keep the oats warm while you prepare the s'mores.
Roasting the Marshmallows
Now this is seriously the fun part! If you have a fondue kit, feel free to use it to roast your marshmallows. However, I understand that that may be a bit too much work for oatmeal! To avoid pulling out your fondue kit, or if you don’t have one, then fear not! You can roast the marshmallows over the stove or even with a flambé torch. I’ll discuss
Get your s’more ready by placing a few squares of your favourite chocolate bar on one graham cracker.
To roast marshmallows on the stove, insert the marshmallows to a fork or a skewer and heat a burner on high heat.
From a height, roast your marshmallows.
Gently rotate the fork, and keep cooking until your marshmallows are golden brown, for about 3-4 minutes.
When the marshmallows have finished roasting, place the marshmallow over the chocolate square.
Then, place the second graham cracker on top, and smash it!
To roast marshmallows with a baker's torch, place the marshmallows over the assembled chocolate squares and graham cracker. Working over a baking sheet and a wire rack, turn on the blow torch and from a height of 4-5 inches, roast the marshmallows.
When the marshmallows have finished roasting, close the s'more with another cracker and gently press down.
Finishing the S’mores Oatmeal
Once the s'mores are ready, pour oats into a bowl. You may need to add a splash of milk if the oats have thickened too much.
Top with the s'more, chocolate chips, and honey or maple syrup.
Serve hot and enjoy!
