I’ve recently become hooked on making my own spice blends, and taco seasoning is one of them! I love that I can control the amount ingredients based on my tastes, and it only takes a few minutes! I find that homemade spice blends are usually much more flavourful than store-bought because of how fresh they are!
Has it happened to you where you’ve started preparing a recipe that called for taco seasoning, but you realized you didn’t have any?
Exactly this has happened to me, not to mention with other spices! But if you’ve got a handful of spices in your pantry, which I’m sure you do, then the problem can easily be solved, so don’t stress out! When you make your own spice, a pretty large batch will yield, so you’ll be ready for next time!
Taco Seasoning rocks! I use it quite frequently, in particular for seasoning seafood, meat, veggies and beans in my favourite taco recipes. The options don’t end at tacos, though! You can also toss it in soups to season, or use it as a rub on steak, fish, chicken and shrimp to pan-fry or grill your protein.
Have I convinced you to make a batch yet? Well I hope so, so in that case go run to your kitchen, gather the spices and a jar, and let’s start making some taco seasoning!
What’s in Homemade Taco Seasoning?
This homemade taco seasoning only has 5 ingredients, and I’m sure you have all of these already! Here’s what you’ll need:

How to Use Homemade Taco Seasoning
Here’s how I like to use homemade taco seasoning!
Ultimate Beef Taco Bowl with Fresh Guacamole: This is a loaded bowl of taco goodness without the taco! We’ve got juicy ground beef, black beans, and rice, topped with guacamole, sour cream, salsa, lettuce and cheese. We use the taco seasoning in our beef to make it extremely delicious and tender!
Oven-Baked Quesadillas with Fresh and Spicy Guacamole: Goodness, I love these quesadillas! An explosion of flavours is found here in the ground beef and tomato mixture. Stuff the mixture in the tortillas, cut, and bake! I really recommend this one! Again, taco seasoning is a crucial component in the meaty mixture to make it so satisfying!
Easy Cheesy Skillet Taco Pasta: One of my favourite beginner recipes! We’ve got the goodness of tacos in a pasta! We’re using ground turkey here and we’ll be seasoning it with taco seasoning to really enhance the flavours. This will transfer into the creamy pasta sauce which will just blow your mind!
